Foster Progams at SACC

Short Commitments
6-72 Hours

Puppy LoveLink

Puppy LoveLink is a very short-term foster program that only takes an hour to 4 hours of your day. You can visit the shelter any day of week after 10 AM to take a dog in need outside of the shelter for an adventure then return at 430 PM. This allows our dogs the chance to de-stress and provides great photo-ops!

Herd Hikes

Coming SOON!

Herd Hikes will be held on Wednesdays and Sundays when the shelter is closed. Animal friends will arrive at 900 AM and as a group head out with adoptable dogs to walk around, learning good manners with other pooches and getting exposure that will help them get adopted. Animals return at 430 PM the same day!

Sleepovers

Sleepovers are available every day and last 24 to 72 hours. Think of how much a weekend away from work helps us recover, when dogs leave the shelter even for a "weekend" get-away their cortisol levels decrease for several days, and happy dogs are adopted more quickly when they return to care. These outings also allow us great information about the personalities of these companion animals.

Socialization

Weaned Pups and Kittens

Basic Medical Care

Socialization cases allow fosters to take kittens or doggos off-site who won't socialize or thrive in the shelter environment. With a little time in a home, their behavior changes, and they become more readily adoptable. These kiddos can then be returned to care to find their forever families.

Weaned puppies and kittens just need a little more time to grow before they return to shelter care. They have to get big and strong for spay/neuter surgery. In 2-4 weeks these little ones (or sometimes adults) are ready to return to find their happily ever after.

When you are dipping your feet in the medical pond, we often have very basic medical cases with wound cleaning or general medication administration to help you grow as a caregiver. Generally our basic medical care cases last two weeks though sometimes, if recovery is delayed they may last four.

Basic Adult Care

Many adults just need a break from the shelter environment and could use some time outside of shelter care.

In our Basic Adult Care program families take home well-adjusted, friendly, healthy animals and give them a much needed shelter break!

Moms with Litters

In a shelter environment, moms are separated from their litters between 4-5 weeks of age. It is critical that in the initial days these mothers are with their little ones if at all possible. By allowing babies to grow with mommy, you provide a chance for mom's stress to be reduced, and for her babies to get strong!

Adoption Ambassadors

Adoption Ambassadors take animals from shelter care who are "ready to go," this means they are ready for adoption. Their foster then helps market them outside of the shelter to find an adopter without the stress of being at the physical shelter.
