MOMS with LITTERS

Dog Moms and Babies

Mama does it all. Even a first-time mama has her instincts kick-in and she goes straight into mothering mode. For the first four weeks, she feeds them, bathes them, and even eats their poo and slurps their pee (yes, you read that right).

You will need to go into their area to ensure they are gaining weight and that no one is in distress, but generally mom takes on most of the labor.

Mom doggos are generally separated from their puppies at 5 weeks.

Cat Moms and Babies

Most kitties have the best idea of how to take care of their beans. Moms will generally teach and dote through the first 4 weeks and begin teaching their kittens independence shortly thereafter.

Most cats are separated from their litter in the 4th to 5th week in a shelter environment so mom can move toward her happily ever after!

Feral Cat Moms and Babies

Feral moms play an integral role in their kitten's well-being and most know just what to do. It can be difficult to get mom to allow access to kittens but that is just what we will teach you to do.

While mom does most of the work the first two to three weeks, it is still imperative that kittens are being handled 2 times a day in the first two weeks and 4 times a day in week three to help them acclimate to humans.

When babies are weaned we will pull mommy for spay and make her part of our barn cat program! This may be as early as 3 to 4 weeks depending on kitten development.

All moms and babies require a special set up and special care and the shelter will help you set up for that. We have the tools on hand to ensure that your experience is the best possible!
